Artist’s Thoughts

Every time I used to see an artist with an artist statement, I wanted to punch them in the face.  That was before I started to paint.

Plus, in full disclosure I probably would not have been able to hurt most of them, as I am 5’9” and barely 160 lbs.   Plus I would never advocate punching anyone anywhere.   So I will call it artist thoughts because I keep it real and it sounds less pretentious.

I have paint in my blood, literally.   One time I cut my hand while I was painting and got paint inside my bloodstream.   I was ok in the end, it was only a small amount of paint.   My grandfather also painted.

I am a musician and I started painting so that I could paint some of my own album covers.  Then I got hooked.   I love that there were people in the mid 20th century who painted black squares on white canvases and then sold those paintings for millions of dollars.   My style is not for everyone.  If you like puppies, apple pie, mom, long walks on the beach and candle-lit dinners, you will probably like my paintings.

I strive for perfection but my paintings are not always perfect.  If you want perfection, use a computer.  I am not afraid to use pink or lavender paints.   I hate clutter and chaos, so I try keep my paintings simple.   Most people paint to relax, painting stresses me out because of the precision my artwork requires.   I picked acrylics over oils because I am scared of turpentine.  I use a lot of rollers and disposable foam brushes because I don’t have a utility sink.   But I always recycle and try to keep the planet clean.

If you think my paintings are so simple that you can do them yourself, you probably can.  Then again why aren’t you?  This is my story and I am sticking to most of it.
